‘One Goal, One Community’ Day
The World Game comes to Fawkner
Celebrating our Multiculturalism and Diversity through Football
Federal Member for Wills, Kelvin Thomson MP, together with SBS and John Fawkner Secondary College, is proud to invite all members of our local community to the ‘One Goal, One Community Day, the World Game comes to Fawkner- Celebrating Multiculturalism and Diversity through Football’.
The Day brings together former Socceroos, Craig Foster & David Zdrilic, SBS talent and ‘Mr Football’ Les Murray, John Fawkner Secondary College & Melbourne City’s College of Football, and the wider local community; to celebrate our proudly multicultural and diverse community through the unifying message of world football.
“Our community in Wills, particularly Fawkner, is culturally and socially rich, hardworking and a proud community. Many residents living in Wills were either born in or have heritage from various different parts of the world. It is this diversity which contributes to the strengthening of the Australian social fabric, and which I would like to celebrate through the global game of football”, Mr Thomson said.
Former Socceroo and SBS Chief Football Analyst, Craig Foster, said; “We are very much looking forward to coming to Fawkner. I know firsthand the important role football can play to help build community cultural understanding, inclusion, respect and resilience. Football represents the many cultural heritages that make our nation one of the most multicultural on earth”.
Former Socceroo David Zdrilic, said; “We are very much looking forward to playing with the John Fawkner Secondary College XI, who have been doing great work in conjunction with the Melbourne City Football Club College of Football. We are also looking forward to providing young people from the community with a special football clinic to help build their skills, confidence and understanding of the game, and also each other”.
Gus Napoli, Principal of John Fawkner Secondary College, said; “One of the founding principles in establishing the Melbourne City College of Football at John Fawkner College was to link the community’s passion for football with a quality training and academic program. The cultural blend of students in the program are an excellent example of diversity and harmony. We are delighted to be asked to host the ‘One Goal One Community Multicultural Football Day’”.
“I encourage all residents to come along to see John Fawkner Secondary College XI battle it out with the SBS All Stars for the One Goal, One Community Cup, meet with the SBS talent, and register a young person for the special Football Clinic”, Mr Thomson said.

MELBOURNE COLLEGE OF FOOTBALL ANNUAL TRIALS
The Melbourne City College of Football at John Fawkner College gives students an opportunity to live their football and academic dream and, in September, students throughout Victoria can find out how they can be a part of it for 2015.
On Thursday September 25, the Melbourne City College of Football will be running its annual football trials where prospective students have a chance to be assessed by Melbourne City coaching staff and learn more about the program.
“The day is all about learning more about the program and getting to meet the teachers and the coaches who deliver the program,” explains Joe Palatsidis, Melbourne City Youth team head coach and coach of the Melbourne City College of Football.
“The clinic will give students who are passionate about football a chance to experience the high quality training in the program and personally experience the state of the art facilities that are on offer at John Fawkner College,” he said.
Melbourne City College of Football football trials is not only an opportunity to find out more about the cutting edge football program at the school but also how the school uses football to better engage students in their academic learning.
“The most important reason why we have partnered Melbourne City in the delivery of this program is to get students who are passionate about sport excited about their learning,” said Gus Napoli, principal of John Fawkner College.
“The Melbourne City College of Football is at the core of the John Fawkner Sports Industry Pathways Program – a program that satisfies curriculum outcomes in Years 10-12 and links to further study at La Trobe University. We are serious about students reaching their academic potential, and sport and the football program play a big part in doing that,” he said.
Primary and secondary students, male and female of all football abilities throughout Victoria are invited to attend the clinic. All they have to do is CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.
